Happy Halloween!

Rykken's first Halloween was very fun! We didn't go trick or treating, but we went and spent some time with our friends Amy and Addison. Addison is 10 months old and she is a doll. She was a lady bug and Rykken was a cow.

Rykken has a lot of people who love him and so we got tons of Halloween goodies in the mail...including some costumes. Here are "some" not all of what we received! Enjoy!

What do you call this again?.......Oh thats right....SLEEP!

Our biggest development these past two weeks have been.....drum roll please......SLEEP! Rykken is sleeping through the night! For the past week and half Rykken has slept through the night. Last week he was going to bed around 10 and waking up around 5:30 or 6am. Which is GREAT! This week.....he has been going to bed between 9:30 and 10pm and I have been getting him up at 7:30am to get him ready for day care! Please put your hands together and pray that it continues this way....who knows how long he will sleep when I don't have to go to work....8am would be a miracle! I am SO proud of him! He is a superstar...what can I say. Rykken had his two month check up last Monday and all is well. He weighed 13lbs 4oz and was 23in long. He got four immunizations...he was very unhappy....he cried, I cried. He did well, didn't seem to be uncomfortable afterwards...so thats good. He has been sick this past week...still. He is still battling the congestion which the doctor contributes to being in West Texas...so we constantly have the humidifier running...doesn't seem to help. He also developed diarehha last Sat (you think regular newborn poop is bad...) so I have been dealing with that and the diaper rash. He has horrible diaper rash from the diarehha and it is so frustrating! I have tried several diaper rash creams...the only one that I have found that seems to be making a difference is A&D ointment. I took him back to the doctor on Monday and the doctor said there is nothing they can do for him...that its viral and he will just have to ride it out. He has lost 3oz since his two month appointment, but he is not dehydrated and he is eating well and not spitting up or vomitting...his little toosh is just not happy! He is a trooper though and amazingly enough has not been anymore fussy than usual. I went through all of his clothes and already packed up a big box of newborn clothes that he can't fit into anymore...it is so amazing how fast they grow...half of what I packed he never even wore. Rykken is really starting to become vocal...he coos and grunts a whole lot....and I mentioned last time that he has found his hands and has started sucking on those more, yesterday when I got off work and I went to get his carseat out of the car, he was just sitting there with one of his hands held up in front of his face and he was staring so intently at it while he was moving his hand around. I seriously sat down in the backseat and sat there and watched him for a good five minutes. You just don't realize how amazing these little babies are and how inquistive they are until you watch them discover something new. Watching him slowly discover that his hand is his, is just...I don't know...incredible! The silliest and most simple things make you so proud and so happy!

Little Boy Blue

Rykken is now two months old! How time flies! Rykken has completed his second week of daycare and I can honestly say that we both faired well. I really like the daycare and the teachers. Rykken is the rockstar of the center! He is the youngest baby there...the next closest in age is 6 months old. On Friday when I dropped him off the director said everyone loves him around the center. She said she catches her other teachers in the nursery holding him when they are on their break, she said he is hardly ever put down. Which is a good thing! Rykken is still sleeping well...getting up once a night, but now we are mastering the art of him only being up for a max of 20 minutes...long enough to change his toosh and eat. He has also mastered the art of self soothing...HALLEIGHUA! I put him to bed when he is drowsy and he puts himself to sleep, so after he eats, I just put him back to bed and it takes about 5 minutes of him kicking his legs and grunting and then he goes to sleep....I must say....IT IS THE BEST THING EVER! A lot of it has to do with him being in daycare...which is one good thing about having to put your baby in daycare...is they are forced to self soothe themselves because obvisouly the teacher can't hold them all the time and I think some of it has to do with the fact that he has found his hands and sucks on them instead of screaming until I pop a pacifier in his mouth. All in all...my life has gotten ten times easier in those early morning hours. Rykken has his two month check up tomorrow afternoon...I am very anxious to see how much he weighs and how long he is...but I'm not excited for the immunizations. Baby tylenol here we come! Rykken has been sick this past week with a congestion thing (gotta love daycare) and so he has been spitting up at almost every feeding...which I am contributing to drainage...so hopefully we can get that taken care of at this appointment as well. Besides that...he is still smiling away....loving his mobiles....liking the swing better and spending a significant amount of time under his gym...which I must say is a life saver when its time to clean house! He is just a sweet baby and I am so lucky to have him!

My Little Booger!

Rykken is 7 weeks old today! WHOO HOO! He is the cutest little booger I have ever seen! His presonality is really starting to show. As you can see he is smiling! He has the best smile ever! Rykken is doing really well...he is still sleeping pretty okay at night. The past couple of nights he has been getting up twice which is unusual (he usually only gets up once), I think he may be going through a growth spurt and that would account for why he wants to eat an extra time during the night. Who knows...I guess it could also be that I started back to work this past week and maybe it is just part of the whole process of adjusting for him. Rykken did very well this past week when I went back to work, although he did stay home and wasn't removed from his element while I was gone yet, so who knows how next week will go when he starts daycare and is out of his element with someone he doesn't know. Hopefully it goes smooth...because as long as I know he is okay and happy then I will be okay and happy, but if he has a hard time adjusting I know it will be very traumatic for me. :) It has been so hard for me to go back to work...I miss Rykken so much being away from him....but he always has a smile for me when I get home...so I don't think he will forget about me! ;) Rykken is growing like a weed, he is already out of newborn diapers...we are in size 1...what what! He has also grown out of nearly all of this newborn clothes. There are a few he can still wear...but he is definetely more comfortable in 0-3 months and even 3 months. Everything fits nicely around his tummy, what gets us is the length in pants and the onsies. Rykken is a tall boy! Rykken got to meet his Grandpa (my dad) and Grandma (my step-mom) this past weekend and week. He was smitten with them and them with him. He still has a lot of family to meet...he hasn't met his two aunts, uncle, or two cousins yet. Hopefully soon!
